FAQ
1. How do the email competitions work?
Once you register your interest in taking part in our email competitions we will send you a reminder email about a week before entries are due (All the monthly competitions can be found on the schedule page).
On the day in question, or before, you will email your image to bordercameraclub@gmail.com
Your image needs to be in a jpeg format and around 2MB. The lower the memory the poorer the quality the image will be once they are sent out for judging. Each image needs a title and if possible any relevant tags that could be used when they are posted on our social media accounts.
Once all entries have been received, they will then be sent out to all members to judge along with a marking sheet. As well as judging all entries you will also be asked to write an anonymous critique on a randomly assigned image, to be sent back with your scores.
Once all score sheets have been counted and verified an email will be sent out with everyone's scores and a critique for each image.
2. How do the In Person competitions work?
Once you register your interest in taking part in our In Person competitions we will send you a reminder email about a week before entries are due to be brought to the Burton Hotel (HR5 3BQ ) on the 1st Friday of the appropriate month at 7-7.30 (All the monthly competitions can be found on the schedule page).
All images need to be mounted, preferably on a 20" x 16" board. Entries should have NO titles or identifying marks so all images can be judged anonymously. If you are unable to attend the meeting but still wish to put an entry in, you can drop it off at the Cloud 9 reception, next to the Burton Hotel, and say it is for the attention of our Chairman, Clive Clarke.
Once everyone is present, the images will be displayed and then marked using the standard score sheet. While the scores are totted up there is a chance for members to chat about the entries. This is a great opportunity to find out if images can be improved.
Before the end of the evening, an approximate result will be issued. These will be verified later once all the score sheets have been double checked.
So that all entries can be added to our social media sites, members are asked to then email their images to bordercameraclug@gmail.com, with a title and any relevant tags.
2. Are there any prizes for winning a competition
Although there are no individual prizes for winning the monthly competitions, during the year all members scores are added up, and at the end of the year, we present two shield to the "Photographer of the Year", One for the email competitions and one for the print competitions. The more monthly competitions you enter the greater the chance of winning a shield.
